Welcome to The Old School House Bed and Breakfast Guest House
The Old School House bed and breakfast guest house is in the small village of Collingbourne Kingston which nestles in the beautiful valley of the River Bourne, and is surrounded by the "big skies" and rolling chalk downland for which Wiltshire is famous. Collingbourne Kingston is within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which stretches away to the north and east and joins the vast wilderness of Salisbury Plain. The village of Collingbourne Kingston and those nearby have many pretty thatched cottages, ancient churches and popular country pubs. The River Bourne is a "winterbourne" flowing from autumn through to spring and flows south to become a tributary of the River Avon at Salisbury. The River Avon later joins the sea at Christchurch, Dorset.
The village of Collingbourne Kingston falls within "Kennet District" of Wiltshire which is officially described as "mainly rural and agricultural in character and includes some of the finest landscape in southern England."
As for the history of The Old
School House, it was acquired by Livio and Lynda Guglielmino 19 years ago and
converted as an out of town restaurant aiming at excellence in the hospitality,
food, and wine on offer. Providing accommodation for guests was part of their
plan, and when the restaurant was closed a few years ago The Old School House
was converted in to a bed and breakfast guest house. Livio and Lynda have since
concentrated on providing the same excellent service that had earned the
restaurant a loyal clientele to all guest that now stay.
The Old School House at Collingbourne Kingston was at the forefront of education in Victorian England with the support of local Anglican Church. The Old School House was opened in 1845 for the teaching of the three R’s to the children of Collingbourne villages who would mainly be the offspring of local farm workers and rural craftsmen. In its day it was at the very leading edge of social advancement's as universal education was not introduced until 30 years later. Today Collingbourne Kingston and The Old School House bed and breakfast guest house is well situated for tourism. The prehistoric sites of Stonehenge, Silbury Hill and Avebury Ring as well as such centres as Marlborough and the Cathedral Cities of Winchester and Salisbury are all within easy reach. There is also plenty of open country to explore in Wiltshire ranging from downland to the rugged and open Salisbury Plain; also beautiful places such as The New Forest and the South Coast are not far away.
